Thoughtful + Minimal Christmas | For Her

Christmas as an adult woman is difficult.

You typically have enough money to buy yourself the things you want. Maybe you’re like me and are very price conscious, love a good sale, and you don’t enjoy people spending their hard-worked money on you. Or, it may be that you just don’t know where your interests lie.

It’s hard because you deserve the world. You deserve to be happy with your Christmas and thrilled with what you receive.

Here are the 10 gift ideas for her that she’d gleam with joy opening.

On this list, you will not find blankets or candles, generic gift crates, nor things you won’t use often or daily. I focus on quality versus quantity and of course, keep it simple and minimal.

1. Crafting supplies!

Turning your brain off for a few minutes every day…. sounds blissful, yes? Last year, I decided I wanted to learn to knit and I needed it for my mental health issues. I got this learning set from Etsy and since then I’ve been able to do blankets, hats, bunnies, etc.

There are kits to kick start any interest you may have: crochet like Woobles, embroidery, wood burning, watercolor, acrylic + number painting, jewelry making, etc.

2. A fitness tracker

Whether or not you’re looking to use it for fitness, tracking your heartrate, steps and miles walked is a great thing. Personally, I never take my Fitbit Luxe off. I don’t wear jewelry; however, this is smaller than a normal watch so I don’t mind it. Obviously, there are many options from an Apple watch to a Garmin. It’s a personal user choice but everyone I know that has one, loves it.

3. A car detail (or house cleaning)

Who knows what lives in between the backseats of my car. Haha! In realness, getting a deep cleaning for car (and home!) would be welcomed. There are some people that may take that the wrong way so use your judgement.

4. A Sauna

In my year of health (see previous posts), I stayed at an Airbnb that had a standalone traditional sauna and it was the best thing EVER. Gimme 30 minutes to sit quietly and warm and I’m a happy camper! Unfortunately, spending major dollars on a standalone one is something I’d love to work up to but isn’t feasible at the moment. I found this one that has great reviews and thought it would be a lovely because it can be enjoyed easily.

5. ALL types of Books

A Kindle has to be on this list right? Gifting one with a few months of Kindle Unlimited is a great gift for the readers. If they already have one, physical books are always wanted as well. Book of the Month Club is nice to gift as you pick your own books that come!

Cookbooks are great additions to ones kitchen. My favorite at the moment is the Baking School for making bread. I don’t journal but feel like maybe I’d enjoy this One Line a Day.

6. Have someone that loves to workout on your list?

> 15 minutes on this stepper and they’ll be sweating like crazy. Guaranteed! I love it and it fits easily under my bed.

> If they like to zen out at yoga, a new mat is always needed! I read an article about the plastics in the major yoga mat brands and that they’re not good to breathe in, so I’d recommend this organic cotton yoga mat and this organic jute one.

> Recover easier with an acupressure mat, no needles needed!

7. Beverages of choice!

There’s something to be said about that cathartic first sip- it just hits right. When giving beverages, be sure to tailor your gifts around the person. While you may enjoy a great glass of wine, another may be abstaining; not everyone drinks coffee, some tea.

> Let’s start with coffee! I love a good coffee in the am. On slow days, having a pour over or French press sets the day off with intention. Espresso can take but a minute to do. I have this mighty little one that I use with a local espresso blend. Makes for an easy gift that will be enjoyed!

> Tea (& coffee) lovers will rejoice in this BEAUTIFUL electric kettle and Ember mug that keeps their beverages at the right temp. No more cold coffee reheated in the microwave for Mom!

> For the wine drinker, options are literally endless. So many different bottles and varieties. Some people like red, some people white, some drink anything! There are local wine clubs in Columbus, Ohio that are worth it- Coast Wine House and Meza Wine Shop. If you’re not in Columbus, look for a local wine shop that will deliver as a gift membership.

For national options, I’d recommend Coopers Hawk (the sheer variety, you’ll find something you like) and Vine Oh!, a subscription box that comes through the mail with extra gifties. I haven’t tried it but had a friend that did & she loved it.

8. Cooking and baking goodies!

I’m at that age where new pots and pans sound like a great gift! If you have someone who enjoys tinkering in the kitchen, you can’t go wrong with some upgrades.

> Sourdough is all the rage these days. I’m still new to it, however I’ve learned (the hard way) that a few items go a far way. 1. A digital scale 2. Restaurant-quality stainless steel bowls 3. A proofing basket (although you can use #2, I’ve learned this the way to go) 4. And a scraper (preferably no plastic)

> Small appliances to make your dinner routine better is always a good choice! I’ve been hesitant to get onto the air fryer bandwagon. We try not to eat out of any type of plastic that gets heated up. But this one… I could see me jumping on the bandwagon for. It has stainless steel plates and does other things like convect, grill, broil and warm. Now, make sure that the receiver has space for it because it’s not little. I bet it could be stored away in the pantry or a lower cabinet for when not in use, but it depends on the kitchen.

9. A night at a hotel.

solo. quiet. wonderful. Add in a massage and/or meal delivery and I’m sure the receiver would be delighted! Even better, upgrade the room to have a view with a bottle of champs. Sounds HEAVENLY!

10. And, I know.. I know, but gift cards.

Hear me out! I love getting gift cards of all sorts. I like picking out new things for myself – instead of the awkwardness of returning a gifted item and selecting a new. This year a few gift cards that would be welcomed with open arms (to name a few…) GAS cards, GROCERY store gift cards, Etsy gift cards (I’m sure many people have a list going on it), small business + local shops gift cards, etc.

Honestly, it’s hard to buy gifts for adults in general. I know you want to give and make the receiver feel great about themselves (and you). Personalize your gifts, think of the receiver and their wants/needs. When in doubt, ASK them– ask them their opinion, ask them what their plans are for the upcoming year, ask them if they’d use something before you buy them anything.

Again, I’m all for experiences for all involved. Offering something intangible like keeping their kids overnight or a weekend -or- doing something together would be so wonderful for you and them.

Make the memories, bask in joy, and keep it simple this season.
