Looking back on my continuing journey, it’s hard to pinpoint an exact moment that it all became clearer. Honestly, it was probably after scrolling Instagram one night and me saying to my husband “this should be easier, right?”
Easier in a sense that we do a lot in one day.
It’s a lot to keep our house in order, everyone satisfied, dressed, fed and bathed (yourself and your kiddos), work manageable and non-interfering on our “off time”, but do we do things for ourselves?
Something to ponder …
I often get asked how I read so many books in a year. (I typically read anywhere from 100 to 120 books). And my answer? I make the time.

It’s my form of self-care. Self-care doesn’t have to be crazy or expensive. It’s not all about going to a fluffy robe spa and getting a massage (although, those massages are amazing).
It can be as simple as how you spend time with yourself.
I get that some of you will have kids attached to your hip all the time -or- a never-ending phone with constant emails and notifications even at all hours of the day (and night).
The challenge of life is to make the time. Sounds easy right? Ha, it’s not but I’ve learned that doing small simple steps will help tremendously.
First, you need to define your definition of self-care.
Is it waking up before the kids do to have an alone moment? (If you do this, you’re my hero!) Is it doing a skin care routine before you get ready for the day? Doing a cold plunge or taking a luxurious shower? Or simply taking 5 minutes out of our day to sit alone while not scrolling?
Making your favorite cup of coffee and breathing in its warmth? Is it making sure that you have wonderful nutritious food to eat for your week or dinner planned out?

Next, breathe when you have a moment.
What type of breath? A breath that’s calming, a breath that’s long, a breath that makes your brain escape for a hot minute. It doesn’t need to be meditating, but a quiet moment to yourself is always needed.
Lastly, turn off the comparison.
Easier said than done, right? We all have our own definitions of what works for us.
One friend may be doing and buying all the items they see on Tik Tok. Another may be taking a nightly walk around their neighborhood. A neighbor may be picking and choosing what’s right for her.
Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. Let’s get back to simple.
Do something for yourself this week! It can be free, it can be with others, done in the shower, I don’t care, just do ONE thing for yourself.
